Dr. Hanping Hong is a Professor in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Western University. He has internationally recognized expertise in the areas of probabilistic analysis, reliability and risk assessment, and natural hazard quantification. He has made substantial contributions to reliability-based structural design.
He is actively involved in several design code committees, within which his research results have been adopted. His research aims to develop information-sensitive reliability-based design methodologies of infrastructure, to model spatially and temporally varying seismic hazards, and to assess natural hazards-induced risk.
